English Setter Rescue Success Stories

Tess's Story

Tess was rescued from Bradford County Humane Society, two days after she was to be put down. The shelter kept her because they knew rescue was coming.

We hope Tess has many years with the Hoppe family too. I am sure they will be the best of her life.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Girard, A.C.E.S. ( Another Chance for English Setters)

***********************************************************************

After only a month with our family, Tess has all of us wrapped around her little dew claw. When we adopted her she had little or no training and a skin allergy which caused her to scratch night and day. But what a charming personality with her little brown eye!

After treatment by our vet we took her to obedience school and she is the star of the class - the trainer keeps saying - "Watch the English", she does perfectly and will probably be the valedictorian at graduation in two weeks.

We also called in a dog behaviorist who came to the house and helped us understand her and how to handle her problems which were mainly stalking our cat (who now lives on top of the refrigerator) and getting into the trash. Today I was able to take a picture of Tess and Kelsey (the cat) sleeping together, so things are looking up!

Tess wears a little jacket when she goes for walks - my husband says - "Peg, she's a field dog - she sits in duck blinds all night, she doesn't need a coat", but my idea of a duck blind is Tess on my lap wrapped in an afghan. She sleeps on our bed and loves being carried by our oldest son with her little feet up in the air - all no-no's according to our behaviorist, but we can't resist.

Well, our family - including our mixed breed, Bonnie - have welcomed this precious pumpkin with open arms - we've had dogs for years and years but this is our first English setter - but hopefully not our last. Thanks, Bonnie, and the Kaisers for introducing us to Miss Tess - we pray she will be a part of our family for many, many years.

Peg Hoppe ( for all of the family)
